People affected by multiple sclerosis

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis is a neurological condition that can affect movement, balance, and strength. At Gracare, we provide solutions adapted to each level of mobility to support independence and wellbeing.

Types of Multiple Sclerosis

Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis

It is the most common form at onset (around 85% of cases).
It is characterised by relapses or flare-ups followed by remission phases.

  • Progression: Unstable; relapses may leave lasting effects.

Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

From the onset, the patient experiences continuous neurological deterioration, without defined relapses. It is less common (10–15% of cases) and is usually diagnosed at a later age.

  • Progression: Slow but steady; mainly affects mobility.

Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

It is a progression of RRMS. After years of relapses and remissions, the patient begins to experience constant neurological worsening, although relapses may still occur occasionally.

  • Progression: Progressive; symptoms steadily increase over time.

Progressive-Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis

Very rare form. It combines continuous progression of symptoms with occasional relapses. It is considered a more active form of PPMS.

  • Progression: Progressive, with periods of sudden worsening.
