Our origins

Gracare was born from the vision of Josep Maria Camós, then President of the International Orthopaedic Federation (Interbor), who recognised the need for a more specialised service for people with neurological and physical conditions. As a result, he decided to divide his company, Grau Soler, into two specialised divisions: Grau Soler would focus on Orthotics and Prosthetics, while Gracare would specialise in Assistive Technology and Mobility Solutions.

Gracare is founded

In 1991, Gracare was established as a separate company from Grau Soler, becoming the first business in Spain dedicated exclusively to assistive technology for people with neurological conditions, including hemiplegia, paraplegia, tetraplegia, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. Gracare is an approved supplier to CatSalut and the Institut Guttmann. The company also took part in the Barcelona 1992 Paralympic Games, providing technical support to participating athletes.

Cerebral Palsy

In 1993, Gracare introduced custom-moulded seating systems for children with cerebral palsy into its catalogue. Initially, foam production was outsourced, but the company soon brought manufacturing in-house, improving both quality and delivery times. Gracare later expanded its offering to include adults and added postural beds and other specialised products. Today, the company manufactures more than 150 custom seating systems each year and is a leading provider of paediatric seating solutions in Catalonia.

Development

In 2008, Gracare relocated from Galileo Street in Barcelona to its current facilities on Entença Street. The move allowed the company to expand both its showroom and workshop while improving accessibility for users, thanks to nearby metro stations, multiple bus routes, and convenient parking facilities. In the same year, Gracare opened a new centre on Avinguda Jacquard in Terrassa to serve the Vallès region. The response was so positive that a second adjoining premises was soon added to accommodate growing demand.

Technology

In 2018, the Grau Soler Group made its largest investment in technology to date, transforming a sector that had remained largely unchanged for decades and becoming an international benchmark in the field. The full integration of CAD/CAM technologies—including 3D scanning for measurements, computer-aided design, robotic manufacturing, and 3D printing—made it possible to produce all types of custom-made products with the highest quality standards and significantly reduced delivery times.

Pandemia

La Pandemia de 2020 supone un duro periodo para todos., pero mientras que la mayoría de empresas del sector cierran sus puertas,  Gracare y Grau Soler mantienen sus centros abiertos.  fieles a su compromiso social como Sector Sanitario Estratégico. Se continúa ofreciendo  servicio presencial en los centros así como en domicilios particulares, residencias y hospitales. A pesar de las máximas medidas de seguridad, el riesgo existe y el compromiso demostrado por los equipos de Gracare y Grau Soler hacia sus conciudadanos es motivo de inmenso y merecido orgullo

Rosselló

In 2022, Gracare Rosselló opened its doors opposite the main entrance of the Hospital Clínic and next to its metro station. Transforming a former air-conditioning sales office into a modern and functional Assistive Technology Centre required a significant investment. The response was extremely positive, and the centre quickly became a trusted reference point for both local residents and visitors to the hospital. Like all Gracare centres, Gracare Rosselló holds the CatSalut Custom Orthopaedics Licence, the highest level of accreditation granted by the organisation.

Technical Support

As Gracare continued to grow, additional space was needed for new showroom areas and more assessment and fitting rooms. In 2022, the workshop and warehouse were relocated to a dedicated facility, providing a larger and more comfortable working environment for our technical team. However, some users highlighted the difficulties of accessing the new location. In response, Gracare decided in 2025 to move the workshop back to Entença Street, into a new 300-square-metre facility next to our headquarters. With excellent access by both public and private transport, it offers a level of convenience and accessibility that is unique in Catalonia.

Gracare hoy

Gracare is today the undisputed leader in assistive technology solutions in Catalonia and ranks among the leading companies in Spain. It has the largest team of specialists in the sector, is a key distributor of the most recognised brands, and collaborates as an authorised centre with organisations such as the Institut Guttmann, ASPACE, CatSalut, occupational insurance providers, care homes, and special education schools. Gracare also runs GracAdemia, its professional training programme, which has become a benchmark within the industry.
